How to Delete Cell Phone Memory

Deleting, or wiping, the memory from your cell phone can protect your personal data, and prevent others from gaining access to your call history, photos, text messages, email account, calendar appointments, and more. Although the exact process for deleting your cell phone's memory is different for each make and model of cell phone, there are basic guidelines you can follow to ensure that your personal data is wiped from the device; especially before you sell, recycle, dispose of, or donate the device to a charity. Continue reading this article to learn about the basic processes for deleting cell phone memory, and to obtain the instructions for wiping the data on your specific cell phone model.

Method1

General Memory Deletion Processes

1.Remove the memory card from your cell phone.
If your cell phone has a memory card, it is likely that the memory card is storing your images, photographs, videos, ringtones, and other media you may have downloaded or placed on your cell phone.

2.Remove the subscriber identity module (SIM) card from your cell phone.
The SIM card often stores phone numbers from your address book and text messages. Your cell phone will contain a SIM card if you use a wireless carrier with Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology, such as T-Mobile or AT&T.
3.Delete all text and picture messages from your messaging folder.
Most cell phones will have an option in the messaging folder that allows you to delete all your messages at the same time.
·         Verify that your messages are deleted from your inbox, outbox, sent folder, drafts folder, and all other messaging folders on your device.

Method2

iPhone Procedure

1.Access the "Settings" menu from your iPhone.
Access your settings in your menu bar and select setting.
2.Tap on "General," then select "Reset."
·         If you are using an iPhone 3GS, your phone's memory will reset within 2 to 3 minutes; however, if you are using an original iPhone or iPhone 3G model, it may take several hours to reset the memory depending on your phone's storage capacity.

Method3

Blackberry Procedure

1.Select "Options" from the home screen of your Blackberry device.
2.Select "Security Options." This option will read as "Security" if you own a Blackberry with an operating system version of between 6.0 and 7.0.
3.Select "Security Wipe.
" This option will display as "Wipe Handheld" if you are using a Blackberry with a 4.5, 4.6, or 4.7 operating system.
4.Type "blackberry" in lowercase when prompted for the password.
5Press "Wipe" or "Enter" to confirm that you want to erase all the data from your Blackberry device.
This procedure may take up to several minutes depending on your phone's data capacity, and will display the icon of an hourglass throughout the reset procedure.

Method4

Windows Mobile Procedure

1.Click on the "Start" menu of your Windows Mobile device.
2.Select "Settings," then select "Clear Storage." On some Windows Mobile phones, this option may read as "Hard Reset."
3.Enter "1234" into the password field.
4.Press "Yes" to confirm that you want to erase all data from your Windows Mobile device.

Method5

Nokia Procedure

1. Access your phone's dial pad, or keypad.
2. Enter "*#7370#" on your phone's dial pad.
3. Enter "12345" when prompted for a security password. Your Nokia's memory will then be deleted.

Method6

Procedure for All Other Phones

1.Access your cell phone's "Settings" menu.
2.Look for an option labeled "Master Reset," "Data Wipe," "Memory," "Clear," or any other option that may refer to deleting the memory on your cell phone.
·         Some phones may store the reset option under folders labeled "Security" or "Phone."
3.Enter the password to delete the memory on your cell phone. In most cases, the password will be either "1234," "12345," or "000000."
